How to Install Heavy-Duty Wall Shelves in 20 Minutes
Updated: Oct 3
Installing crooked or loose shelves is a common mistake that can lead to accidents. The good news: the secret to a perfect installation lies in proper leveling and using the right wall anchors, which you can master quickly. Here's how.
What You'll Need
Tape measure and pencil
Hammer drill and masonry drill bit
Hammer
Brackets, screws, and wall anchors
Step-by-Step Instructions
Measure and mark. Use the tape measure to set the desired height on the wall and make a small pencil mark.
Level the holes. Position the bracket over the mark and place the bubble level on top. Adjust until the bubble is perfectly centered and mark the drilling spots.
Drill the wall. With your hammer drill, drill the holes at the marks straight and steady.
Insert the anchors. Place the wall anchors into the holes. If necessary, tap them lightly with the hammer until they are flush with the wall.
Mount the bracket. Align the shelf bracket with the holes and use the power drill to drive the screws in all the way.
If you're drilling into drywall, you'll need specific expansion anchors. Otherwise, for traditional masonry walls, this technique guarantees straight and secure shelves in just a few minutes.
